Norridgewock Sportsmen Association (NSA) was formed in 1966. Many dedicated individuals and families in our town work together to have usable snowmobile and ATV trails ready for everyone’s enjoyment. We strive to create safe and enjoyable local trails that link to Fairfield, Skowhegan, Mercer, Smithfield and Madison as well as the Interconnected Trail System (ITS) 87 that passes through the town. Norridgewock has over 30 miles of snowmobile trails.

Since 2006, the Norridgewock Sportsmen Association has included ATV trails with the same objective. When the linking trail system between Mercer and Fairfield was established, NSA began to grow and improve their ATV trail base. Marked ATV routes and snow trails aim to improve safety, enabling the management of traffic and most importantly, protection for landowners. Local landowners volunteer their land for our enjoyment, and the Maine Snowmobile Association provides them with liability insurance coverage.

NSA is excited to work with the state of Maine and the acquisition of the old Central Maine Railroad rail bed. This abandoned rail line is in the process of being converted into a 32-mile recreational trail through central Maine, with Norridgewock in the center. The line once used by the Maine Central Railroad Co. will connect thousands of miles of snowmobile and ATV trails and allow riders to travel from Oakland north to Bingham and the broader Moosehead Lake region. The trail will pass through Oakland, Fairfield, Norridgewock, Madison, Anson, North Anson and Embden and will connect snowmobilers to the Maine Interconnected Trail System through a new route. ATV riders, meanwhile, can connect to the Maine ATV Trail System, including one route connecting Oxford and Franklin counties with Somerset, Piscataquis and Penobscot counties.

Safe riding is the beginning and end to an enjoyable day on a snowmobile or ATV. By taking the proper safety precautions, all of your rides can be fun, and bring you home safe and sound at the end of the day.  The next time you’re out on the trail, “ride right, ride smart, and ride responsibly.” It just may save your life.
